A Special Exhibition “The introduction of Matchlock Guns”

In this exhibition you can learn the history of Japanese guns and appreciate collections of old-fashioned guns as well.
Portuguese passengers were cast up on Tanegashima Island in 1543. Japan’s first firearms were modeled after their guns. It was a swordsmith from Seki who made guns for the first time in Japan. One of these matchlocks which are attributed to Yaita Kimbei Kiyosada as well as other guns are displayed. The exhibition has been organized and many items provided by a leading collector, Taira Sawada.

*From August 30(Wed) to September 25(Mon) 9:00~16:30

*Closed on non-holiday Tuesdays and days following a national holiday.
